Shara "Bullet" Magomedov Names Favorite in Du Plessis vs. Chimaev Fight
Russian UFC middleweight Sharabutdin Magomedov shared his predictions for the upcoming bout between division champion Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev.
UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis, with Sean Strickland firmly in the rearview mirror after UFC 312, is likely set to face Khamzat Chimaev for his next title defense. The undefeated Chimaev earned the likely next middleweight title shot by submitting Robert Whittaker at UFC 308 in October.
Since making the full-time move from welterweight to middleweight, Chimaev hasn’t lost a step in this new weight class. He’s earned wins over Kamaru Usman and Whittaker to cement himself as the No. 1 contender.
But du Plessis presents a unique challenge that Chimaev arguably hasn’t faced yet in his career.
Magomedov considers Chimaev the favorite but doesn’t rule out another surprise victory from du Plessis.
"No matter who du Plessis fights, I always think his opponent will win. In his last five fights, I kept betting against him—yet he somehow pulls it off. I’m constantly amazed. I don’t know how he does it. He’ll find a way in grappling, snatch a submission, or land something sharp on the feet. He’ll just explode out of nowhere.
Of course, on paper, Chimaev should win. By all logic, he should. But du Plessis keeps pushing forward, always hunting for openings—and he finds them," Magomedov said in an interview with Kamil Gadzhiev.
