UFC Icon says Tom Aspinall should ditch Jon Jones fight for specific reason

Image
If Demetrious Johnson was Tom Aspinall, he’d pass on the Jon Jones fight. It’s been over 500 days since we’ve had England’s Aspinall as the interim heavyweight champion, still yet to unify the title with the undisputed champ Jon Jones. Jones would take a detour at Madison Square Garden last November, opting to fight (and retire) former champ Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. Ever since, the whole world’s been waiting on the Jones vs. Aspinall fight announcement, including one of the greatest fighters of all time, former UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson. “It’s almost like a movie we’re all excited about, that might never come out,” Johnson said of the heavyweight super-fight on Submission Radio. Demetrious Johnson wouldn’t wait 6 months for Jon Jones Aspinall won the interim title at UFC 295 in Nov. 2023 after Jon Jones had withdrawn from his title defense with Miocic due to injury. UFC 314 takes major hit as fight between fan favorite knockout artists is cancelled

Image
Fight fans got some bad news just weeks before UFC 314 in Miami. The UFC’s upcoming return to Miami at UFC 314 features a vacant featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes, to go along with a host of other high-profile bouts. In the co-main event, Michael Chandler will look to give Paddy Pimblett the toughest test of his UFC career when they square off in a pivotal lightweight matchup. But the top two fights at UFC 314 round out a star-studded card at the Kaseya Center. Featherweights Jean Silva and Bryce Mitchell will square off in a matchup with a lot of heat, stemming from Silva’s callout at UFC Seattle. Take a look how Pros react after Brandon Moreno defeats Steve Erceg at UFC Mexico City

Image
Tonight’s UFC Mexico City event was headlined by a key men’s flyweight bout between Brandon Moreno and Steve Erceg. Moreno (23-8-2 MMA), the promotion’s former flyweight champion, was competing for the first time since scoring a unanimous decision win over Amir Albazi this past November at UFC Edmonton. Prior to that victory, ‘The Assassin Baby’ was coming off back-to-back losses to Brandon Royval and  Alexandre Pantoja  respectively. Meanwhile, Steve Erceg (12-4 MMA) entered tonight’s  headliner  with hopes of snapping a two-fight losing skid, this after suffering losses to Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Kara-France. Prior to those setbacks, the Aussie was riding an impressive 11-fight win streak. Tonight’s UFC Mexico City main event proved to be a thrilling twenty-five-minute affair. Brandon Moreno got off to a quick start, but Steve Erceg was able to establish his range early in the second frame. The fighters would trade leather for the final three rounds and after fi...

UFC Mexico video: David Martinez demolishes Saimon Oliveira with brutal punch, vicious ground-and-pound

Image
David Martinez lived up to the hype with his octagon debut after laying waste to Saimon Oliveira at UFC Mexico on Saturday. A recent Contender Series signing, Martinez was touted as one of the most ready-made UFC fighters coming off the show and he proved that with a calculated yet devastating performance. After biding his time to set up combinations throughout the opening round, Martinez finally saw an opening to unleash a brutal counter right hand that absolutely blasted Oliveira and put him on wobbly legs. Martinez followed up with a flurry of strikes including a knee right up the middle that put Oliveira down on the canvas. Vicious ground-and-pound followed and once Oliveira’s arms went limp, the referee quickly jumped in to stop the contest at 4:38 in the opening round. Watch the finish below. Dricus du Plessis appeared quite displeased as Shara Magomedov stated his desire to see the South African fighter's downfall. This comes while Magomedov shares his thoughts on a potential fight between du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev for the UFC middleweight championship. A popular MMA page on X, Championship Rounds, highlighted Magomedov's statement from a recent interview with Sport24. I don't understand how he managed to get this belt...Chimaev has the data to defeat Dricus. I hope that nothing will stop him from coming out in the best shape and demonstrating his level. Maybe it's stupid to say, but du Plessis seems to be lucky." Check out Shara Magomedov's comments below (via @champRD...

Daniel Cormier is firing back at the notion that elite lightweight are afraid of Ilia Topuria

Image
Ilia   Topuria (16-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC), who is vacating the UFC featherweight title to move up to the lightweight division, recently said he’s targeting a title shot vs.   Islam Makhachev   (27-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC) or a No. 1 contender bout with Charles Oliveira for his next fight. However, he thinks both men want no part of him. UFC Hall of Famer and commentator Cormier disputes that claim, and although he has immense respect for Topuria’s skillset, he doesn’t think casting a narrative that fear is involved, is utterly off base. “The important thing is, all the conversation surrounds Ilia Topuria right now,” Cormier said Friday on his  YouTube channel . “Ilia said that he wants a title fight. Point blank. He said he’s focusing all of his training (on Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira). … Ilia Topuria is a cool guy, but I kind of disagree. I know for sure Islam Makhachev is not afraid of him. “I’ll tell you this as a person that’s a friend of Islam, a person that’s know...

Magomed Ankalaev's title win could lead to Islam Makhachev headlining marquee UFC PPV in America, claims MMA veteran

Image
Islam Makhachev is the reigning UFC lightweight champion and currently holds the top position in the pound-for-pound rankings. A UFC welterweight believes Makhachev could headline International Fight Week later this year after Magomed Ankalaev dethroned Alex Pereira. International Fight Week will be underway in late June, culminating with UFC 317 on the 28th. The pay-per-view doesn't have any confirmed fights yet, and the annual summer event in Las Vegas usually features one of the promotion's top stars in the headlining role. With Pereira, one of the most popular fighters in the sport, seemingly unlikely to return by June, UFC veteran Michael Chiesa believes Makhachev could now headline the marquee event. In a recent episode of The Bohnfire, Chiesa said: "The timing seems absolutely perfect, and you have to think like when you have champions like Islam Makhachev, you want to save him for marquee for specific markets. So, obviously, you want to keep him for Abu Dhabi, bu...

Bo Nickal explains why Dricus du Plessis won't be able to game-plan for Khamzat Chimaev

Image
Bo Nickal recently opened up on the possibility of Dricus cu Plessis coming up with a game plan to counter Khamzat Chimaev's wrestling. Nickal also rated his wrestling pedigree close to Chimaev. Du Plessis has earned victories over a few UFC fighters with a good ground game, including Derek Brunson. The reigning middleweight champ also boasts a couple of submission victories in the UFC on account of his commendable ground game. However, cu Plessis's general approach to a fight indicates that he prefers a stand-and-strike style fight over a wrestling-heavy one. On the contrary, du Plessis' upcoming rival, Chimaev, has shot for takedowns in the first rounds of the majority of his UFC encounters. After several previous instances, 'Borz' proved his wrestling pedigree again at UFC 308 with a dominant victory over Robert Whittaker in the first round. Nickal recently weighed in on the du Plessis vs. Chimaev fight in one of his recent interviews with Home Of Fight. Afte...
