Dana White Comments on Ankalaev's Victory Over Pereira




UFC President Dana White shared his thoughts on the fight between the new light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira.


"It wasn’t at all what I expected. I expected much more takedowns and exchanges. Does Pereira deserve an immediate rematch? Most likely, yes.


It’s no secret that Ankalaev was always going to be a tough opponent for Alex. Probably even the toughest of his entire career. I wouldn’t downplay Ankalaev’s performance with the pressure he put on Alex tonight. 


He kept pushing until the final bell. I was listening to what Alex’s corner was saying before the fight: 'You have to go for his head, you have to leave everything you’ve got out there. You need to let your hands go. Try to knock him out,'" said White.


It is worth recalling that earlier this morning, Ankalaev defeated Pereira by unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 48-47) in the main event of UFC 313.
